Voodoo Egg Rolls Recipe


🔥 Introduction

Voodoo Egg Rolls are a fusion of Southern Cajun and Asian cuisines—crispy, deep-fried egg rolls packed with spicy sausage, sautĂ©ed peppers, onions, and melty cheese, then served with a spicy “voodoo sauce” for dipping. They’re savory, spicy, crunchy, and guaranteed to disappear fast at any gathering. Perfect for Mardi Gras, game day, or any time you’re craving bold flavor in a handheld bite.

For the Egg Rolls:

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • ½ lb andouille sausage or spicy smoked sausage, finely chopped
  • ½ lb cooked chicken breast, shredded or chopped (optional but tasty)
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 1 small red bell pepper, finely diced
  • 1 small green bell pepper, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp Cajun seasoning (adjust to taste)
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded pepper jack or cheddar cheese
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley or green onion, chopped
  • 12–15 egg roll wrappers
  • Small bowl of water (for sealing edges)
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or peanut oil)

For the Voodoo Dipping Sauce:

  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 2 tsp hot sauce (like Crystal or Louisiana)
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Cajun seasoning
  • 1 tsp honey (optional for balance)

🍳 Instructions & Method

1. Prepare the Filling

  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped sausage and cook until browned (about 4–5 minutes).
  3. Add onion, bell peppers, and garlic. Cook until vegetables are softened (about 3–4 minutes).
  4. Stir in the Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, and season with salt & pepper.
  5. Add the shredded chicken (if using) and stir until heated through.
  6. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  7. Stir in shredded cheese and parsley or green onion.

2. Roll the Egg Rolls

  1. Place an egg roll wrapper on a clean surface like a diamond (corner facing you).
  2. Spoon 2–3 tablespoons of filling near the bottom corner.
  3. Fold the bottom corner over the filling, then fold in the sides, and roll tightly.
  4. Seal the final edge with a bit of water to stick.
  5. Repeat with remaining wrappers and filling.

3. Fry the Egg Rolls

  1. Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Carefully place a few egg rolls at a time in the oil. Do not overcrowd.
  3. Fry for 3–4 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and crispy.
  4. Remove and drain on paper towels.

4. Make the Voodoo Sauce

  1. In a small bowl, mix all sauce ingredients until smooth.
  2. Adjust spice level or sweetness to taste.

Serve hot with the voodoo dipping sauce on the side or drizzle it right over the top for maximum flavor. Garnish with extra parsley or green onion for presentation. These reheat well in the oven or air fryer, but they’re best fresh and crispy!
