🍽️ Introduction:

Juicy, tender steak bites seared to perfection and tossed in a rich garlic butter sauce, served alongside creamy, buttery mashed potatoes — this meal is the ultimate comfort food. It’s quick enough for a weeknight dinner, yet impressive enough for entertaining guests. The contrast of the crispy golden steak edges with velvety potatoes makes every bite satisfying and full of flavor.

🛒 Ingredients:

For the Steak Bites:

  • 1.5 lbs (680g) sirloin steak (or ribeye), cut into 1-inch cubes
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 5 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Optional: pinch of red pepper flakes for heat

For the Mashed Potatoes:

  • 2 lbs (900g) Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • ½ cup whole milk (or heavy cream for extra richness)
  • ¼ cup sour cream (optional for creaminess)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

🔪 Instructions & Methods:

Step 1: Prepare the Mashed Potatoes

  1. Boil the potatoes: Add the peeled and cubed potatoes to a large pot of cold, salted water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 15 minutes or until fork-tender.
  2. Drain and mash: Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add butter, warm milk, and sour cream (if using). Mash until smooth and creamy.
  3. Season: Add salt and pepper to taste. Cover and keep warm while you cook the steak.

Step 2: Cook the Steak Bites

  1. Season the steak: Pat the steak cubes dry with a paper towel. Season generously with salt and black pepper.
  2. Sear in batches: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add half the steak bites (don’t overcrowd) and sear for 2 minutes per side or until browned and crusty. Remove and repeat with the second batch.
  3. Make garlic butter: Reduce heat to medium. In the same skillet, add butter and minced garlic. Stir frequently for about 30 seconds until fragrant — don’t let the garlic burn.
  4. Toss the steak bites: Return all steak bites to the pan and toss them in the garlic butter for 1–2 minutes. Optional: sprinkle with red pepper flakes for a little kick.
  5. Garnish: Sprinkle with fresh chopped parsley.

🍴 To Serve:

  • Spoon a generous portion of mashed potatoes onto a plate.
  • Pile garlic butter steak bites over or alongside the potatoes.
  • Drizzle extra garlic butter from the pan over the top for added flavor.

🔁 Tips & Variations:

  • Meat Choice: Sirloin is great for tenderness and affordability, but ribeye adds more richness.
  • Add veggies: Sautéed green beans, asparagus, or a simple salad pair perfectly.
  • Cheesy mash: Mix shredded cheddar or Parmesan into the mashed potatoes for extra decadence.
  • Garlic overload? You can roast the garlic first for a milder, sweeter flavor.
