Caramelized Pear Flatbread with Brie, Honey & Toasted Walnuts

Introduction

This elegant flatbread balances sweet, savory, and creamy elements in every bite. Golden caramelized pears melt into velvety Brie, while toasted walnuts add a satisfying crunch. A final drizzle of honey ties the whole dish together with warm, aromatic sweetness. It’s sophisticated enough for entertaining yet simple enough for a weeknight indulgence. Serve it as an appetizer, a light lunch, or alongside a crisp green salad.

Ingredients (Serves 2–4)

For the Flatbread

  • 1 store-bought flatbread or naan (or 1 ball of pizza dough, rolled thin)
  • 1–2 ripe pears, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar (or honey)
  • 1 small wheel or wedge Brie cheese (4–6 oz), rind on or off, sliced
  • ¼ cup walnuts, roughly chopped
  • 1–2 tsp fresh thyme leaves (optional)
  • 1–2 tbsp honey, for drizzling
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Pinch of flaky sea salt
  • Freshly cracked black pepper

Instructions

1. Toast the Walnuts

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Spread the walnuts on a small baking sheet.
  3. Toast for 5–7 minutes, or until fragrant. Set aside.

2. Caramelize the Pears

  1. Heat the butter in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the pear slices and sprinkle with brown sugar.
  3. Cook for 5–8 minutes, turning occasionally, until the pears are soft, lightly golden, and caramelized.
  4. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

3. Assemble the Flatbread

  1. Brush the flatbread lightly with olive oil.
  2. Arrange slices of Brie evenly over the surface.
  3. Layer the caramelized pears on top.
  4. Scatter toasted walnuts over the flatbread.
  5. Sprinkle with thyme leaves (if using).
  6. Season with a small pinch of flaky sea salt and black pepper.

4. Bake

  1. Place the assembled flatbread directly on the oven rack or on a baking sheet.
  2. Bake for 8–12 minutes, or until the Brie is melted and the edges are crisp and golden.

5. Finish & Serve

  1. Drizzle with honey while warm.
  2. Slice and serve immediately.

Method Notes & Tips

  • Cheese Swap: Camembert, goat cheese, or Fontina also work beautifully.
  • Add Greens: A handful of arugula tossed in lemon juice makes a peppery topping.
  • Extra Sweetness: Add a few dried cranberries before baking.
  • Want More Savory Depth? Add caramelized onions or a drizzle of balsamic reduction.
  • Make It Vegan: Use vegan Brie, plant-based butter, and maple syrup instead of honey.
