Bang Bang Fried Rice (Quick & Easy)

Introduction

Bang Bang Fried Rice takes inspiration from the classic bang bang sauce—creamy, sweet, spicy, and tangy—and turns it into a bold, satisfying rice dish. It’s ready in under 20 minutes and works beautifully as a main or a side. Great for using up leftover rice and whatever protein you’ve got lying around.

🛒 Ingredients

For the Fried Rice

  • 2 cups cooked rice (cold, day-old works best)
  • 2 tbsp oil (vegetable or sesame)
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ cup onion, finely chopped
  • ½ cup mixed vegetables (peas, carrots, corn, or bell peppers)
  • 1 cup protein of choice (chicken, shrimp, tofu, or leftover meat)
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp rice vinegar or lime juice
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp spring onions, chopped (for garnish)

Bang Bang Sauce

  • 3 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp sweet chili sauce
  • 1–2 tbsp sriracha (adjust to heat level)
  • 1 tsp honey or sugar
  • ½ tsp garlic powder (optional)

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Make the Bang Bang Sauce
In a small bowl, mix mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, sriracha, honey, and garlic powder. Set aside.
  2. Scramble the Eggs
Heat 1 tbsp oil in a large pan or wok over medium-high heat. Add beaten eggs, scramble lightly, then remove and set aside.
  3. Cook the Base
Add remaining oil to the pan. Sauté onion for 1–2 minutes until soft. Add garlic and cook until fragrant (about 30 seconds).
  4. Add Protein & Veggies
Stir in your protein and vegetables. Cook until heated through and lightly golden.
  5. Fry the Rice
Add rice, breaking up any clumps. Stir-fry for 2–3 minutes until hot and slightly crispy.
  6. Season It
Add soy sauce, vinegar (or lime juice), salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  7. Bring the Bang Bang
Lower the heat. Add scrambled eggs back in, then drizzle the bang bang sauce over the rice. Toss gently until evenly coated.
  8. Finish & Serve
Garnish with spring onions and serve hot.

🔥 Methods & Tips (Make It Even Better)

  • Extra crispy rice: Let the rice sit untouched in the pan for 30 seconds before stirring.
  • Healthier option: Swap mayo for Greek yogurt in the sauce.
  • Vegan version: Use tofu and vegan mayo.
  • Extra umami: Add ½ tsp oyster sauce or mushroom sauce.
  • Heat lovers: Finish with chili oil or crushed red pepper.
